My watercolour paintings show my response to the world around me, at home or further afield.  I don’t think I have a particular subject. So there are barns and boats, shoes and sheep, people and places – a bit of a muddle, but, I hope, a colourful and carefully observed muddle! I like to try fresh modern techniques as well as the more traditional approach.
I begin by trying to get what I see onto the paper, then at some point the image takes over. I find a backbone of drawing frees up the painting, and I often alternate the two. I sometimes use oil pastels, acrylic inks and pastel pencils as well as watercolour.
By way of a change, I also enjoy black-and-white drawing and I produce monthly illustrations for a couple of local magazines.
I have undertaken several commissions featuring local houses, churches, gardens, views and animals. and other interesting buildings.
