The Chandos Society of Artists 1961-2021

It is fitting that our Celebration will be held in Bridgwater Arts Centre. Our close association with the Arts Centre started on October 12 1962 with a Lecture “Abstract Art’ by Warren Storey, Principal, Weston-s-Mare College of Art. Through the years the Society has paid host to many famous artists and speakers including Peter Thursby—sculptor and teacher, Arthur Negus—antiques expert, Constance-Anne Parker RA—painter and sculptor, Serena de la Hay—creator of The Willow Man and George Melly—singer, writer and critic.
In 1964 the Minutes of a meeting stated: “the walls of the Art Centre have been embellished with pictures—down to the Chandos Society—for the second part of the year”. For 2021 the Society’s is holding its Celebration Exhibition between 7 October to 20 November.
