It is fitting that our Celebration was held in Bridgwater Arts Centre. Our close association with the Arts Centre started on October 12 1962 with a Lecture “Abstract Art’ by Warren Storey, Principal, Weston-s-Mare College of Art. Through the years the Society has paid host to many famous artists and speakers including Peter Thursby—sculptor and teacher, Arthur Negus—antiques expert, Constance-Anne Parker RA—painter and sculptor, Serena de la Hay—creator of The Willow Man and George Melly—singer, writer and critic.
In 1964 the Minutes of a meeting stated: “the walls of the Art Centre have been embellished with pictures—down to the Chandos Society—for the second part of the year”.
