2026 Online Challenges

Throughout the year there is a two-month Online Challenge with a £20 prize to be won.

Jan-Feb: Inspired by BluesBeat the “winter blues” by playing with some colour. There are lots of beautiful blues – Cobalt, Prussian, Ultramarine, Cerulean, Phthalo, Indigo, Turquoise, Cyan, etc – every artist will have at least one, and you certainly don’t need them all. Whatever you have, explore what you can do with yours in a figurative or abstract work.

Mar-Apr: People and/or AnimalsLots of scope here – from portraits to groups, static or in motion, in close focus or set in a wider context/landscape.

May-June: FlowersBotanical study or more expressive – you decide.

July-Aug: Summertime – A seasonal theme – whether it’s seaside, garden, ice cream, sport, landscape, festival or something else – show us what inspired you.

Sept-Oct: Structure and/or TextureFind inspiration in nature or man-made objects or engineering/architecture – or develop something abstract.

Nov-Dec: Dancer(s) / DancingWhether it’s “Strictly” or the ladies dancing on the 9th day of Christmas, some people will certainly be in the mood. Degas was inspired by the ballet, Laura Knight drew and painted Anna Pavlova and other ballet dancers. Matisse’s “Dance (1)” features in a work by Roy Lichtenstein. Jack Vettriano’s works included couples dancing. What can you do with colour and movement?
